Attack of the Signal-Killer Pumpkins

waving goodbye to Setanta and GNF MoviesA few days ago, after a strong thunderstorm, my FTA system went down. The next morning, I started trying to find the problem. Did some rain get into the wiring? Did lightning fry some equipment? I checked one piece after another, only to determine that the problem had to be somewhere in the line between the grounding block and the spot where it enters the house.

Some of that wire runs past a garden where I have pumpkins growing. If you've never grown pumpkins, you've got to try it some time. They expand explosively, taking over the whole garden and beyond with fast-growing stalks supporting 18-inch leaves. Meanwhile, they send out curly feelers to grab on to anything they can for support.

The hard rain had knocked down some of those stalks with some of those feelers. Which had grabbed hold of the RG6 wire next to it. Enough plants somehow yanked down with enough force to pull the cable out of its crimp. It was an easy problem to fix, but I would have never thought to look there first.

All of which is why I was slow to add the returning KFDF to the list this week. It's great to have another RTN channel to choose from.

Another FTA channel in English? cool. RTN is my favorite network. I just wish it was easier to find out what they have on.

Is there an easier way to create a custom schedule on titantv? I tried to do it with zap2it and failed miserably. trouble is after an hour of playing with it I only had 30 channels entered.

Thanks for the tip about KFDF. I'll scan that in tonight

So far, TitanTV is the only site that will let you set up a custom channel chart from multiple markets. You have to start with a "cable" lineup (NOT "analog"), so it's best if you can find a cable system with a small channel lineup. Then customize it to hide the cable channels and add your own.

My FTA dish was losing signal and I couldn't seem to figure out why. I would bump it to the west and the signal would improve, but not to the original signal strength. While I was looking at the motor and dish mounting, I noticed that it seemed that the dish mounting had slid down a little.

I loosened the two nuts that hold the mounting in place and raised the dish a few fractions of an inch and after some tweaking, my signal came in as good as before.

I know that when I am looking at the dish mounting, I am now going to look at everything, not just a few things that I think might be wrong.

      Thanks for your blog...
